About talking about God.

Silence is the language God speaks
and everything else
is a bad translation.

Thomas Keating

Who made heaven and earth?
Who made insects?
Who made men?
Made male and female?
I who speak don't know.

How made heaven and earth?
I who speak don't know.
I who sing don't know.
Why don't you know?

(The legend of creation from the Miao People)

As far as I think about it now God must be a metaphor for which transcends all levels of intellectual thought. Every religion (re-ligere, re-ligare) is true one way or another. "It is true when understood metaphorically. But when it gets stuck in its metaphors, interpreting them as facts, then we are in trouble".( Joseph Campbell)

Well then,I am trying to talk about God from an Eastern point of view, from my own point of view.
I am trying to talk about God.
We in the West talk about love without understanding the word love.
We talk about understanding without understanding the word understanding.
We talk about religion without understanding the word religion.
In Tai Chi we talk about energy without understanding the word energy.
It’s so easy to talk about religion as it is easy to be religious (or not religious) on paper.
To talk is an art, being talker is a mission, a vocation or a profession.
We talk also about 'God' without understanding the word 'God' because we talk about perception,
we talk about a name named God. It’s so easy to talk about names without understanding.
In this universe there is only one great energy and we have no name for it.
People have tried various names for it like 'God' or 'Tao'.
For many people these words have got so many funny associations attached
to that it that most of us are bored with it. When we say:" God, the father almighty"
most people feel funny inside. Most people like to hear new words or new stories about the same thing.
They like to hear about strange or trendy names from the Far East, names like Tao or Yin and Yang.
As far as I think about it now it’s the same thing.
God is the essence, not a name (Wittgenstein) or a doctrine or a machine (Lao Tse).
God is the 'Great Nothing' (Krisjnamurti) and who knows about 'Nothing' knows about God.
God is the 'Great Depth' and who knows about 'depth' knows about God.
God is the great Silence and who knows about silence knows about God (Thomas Merton)

God is not a philosophy in western sense. God is not an intellectual net
in which one tries to catch the fish of reality (Allen Watts). God is not the fish,
God is the water that slips always trough our verbal- intellectual net.
The water you get into there’s nothing to hang on to.
The only thing to do is to learn to swim.
To swim you give yourself to the water and you have to breathe in the right way,
not in a verbal- intellectual way. Once upon a time you find out that the water holdup indeed.
In a certain way you become water. "Be like water"(Lao Tse).
In a certain way all of us we become God. (B. de Spinoza, Ethica- 1677).
No questions? Just one question: "Why, why, why, why?" Why did God make the universe?
Who made God? And so on and so forth... Why all this stupid questions... Why?
Zen and Chan gives us the answers: "Shut up and eat your bun!"
You cannot attain God by thinking, you cannot even grasp it by not thinking.
God must be the Ultimate Freedom but it’s not easy to achieve freedom without chaos.
All of us we are dreamers (Tswang Tse), only when we are thoroughly aware of the
limited scope of every point of view, are we on the road to the sought for comprehension of the whole.
Then we are on the road of the great energy named God.
But we are tired and when we are tired we don’t just sleep but dream all sort of dreams
we give our dreams all sort of names.

There comes a time when we just dream ourselves out and no more dreams.
There comes a time that we realize what God is: when we don’t name things we start to see them.

Who is God? God must be Freedom and who knows about freedom knows about God.
God must be the Great and Ultimate Depth and who knows about depth knows about God.
God must be the Supreme Ultimate and who knows about the Ultimate knows about God.
God must be Love and who knows about Love knows about God.
God must be further than words (Wittgenstein).
God is simply further than these words, and, who are you? Who knows about himself, knows about God.
I don’t know who I am.
Who am I to tell you the story of God?

Walter Marsoul.

Tai Chi Classics Taoistic Classics: about 'the way'

The way that can be experienced is not true.
The world that can be constructed is not true.
Beyond the gate of experience flows the Way
which is ever greater and more subtle than the world.

Lao Tse -Tao Te Tsjing.
